Facilities will be closed for Winter Break beginning Monday, December 21 through Monday, January 4. If you are on campus during that time and have an emergency, please contact Security at 413-597-4444. Facilities will have on-call technicians scheduled to take care of issues that cannot wait until offices reopen on Tuesday, January 5.
If your plans involve leaving your residence for an extended weekend or longer, we ask that you submit a work request to install a heat lamp through the Facilities online work order system: https://real-estate.williams.edu/repairs-and-maintenance-procedures. The UserID and password are both “realest”. Please do this a week in advance of your departure. It is very important that you give us accurate dates of both departure and return to your unit. If you find you are going to be delayed beyond the date given in the work request, notify Bobbi Senecal at [email protected] or 597-2195 so the light isn’t removed too soon.
Please leave the thermostat in your unit no lower than 55 degrees when you are away. Do not turn off your heat!
When placed in a visible window, this lamp can alert Williams’ maintenance or Security personnel of a below normal temperature in your house or apartment and could avert a pipe freeze up.
If you are going away and leaving someone with permission to house sit or watch pets, let Bobbi know. Also, alert Campus Safety and Security at 597-4444. In the event of a lock-out, CSS will be able to assist the person on entering your unit.
When the heat lamp is installed, we will also be checking the level of fuel in those units where the resident is responsible for the oil heat. If the fuel level is insufficient to carry you through the period you’ll be away, we will ask you to get a delivery scheduled before your departure. Units left without sufficient fuel can cause serious damage that you would be responsible for. If you are unsure of how to calculate the amount of fuel you’ll need, we will be happy to assist you with those calculations.
Some of our units have steam boilers. There is a brief weekly maintenance that needs to be performed on the boiler which takes about 5 minutes.
If you are unsure about what you should be doing, feel free to contact Bobbi Senecal.
